In 2014, while working together on multifaceted projects, Michael Dwyer, Adam Hannaford, and Kurt Gariss developed the process and vision that drive the Merak Group today. Though it would take a few years to come to fruition, that’s where the idea of having a Total Project Management company began.
Merak Group was born out of the revelation that if design and construction continued to work in the same antiquated way as it has for centuries, the Client simply doesn’t receive the cost, time, or quality solution that they deserve. Clients only lose out when all the professionals and contractors on their project are working separately. For decades, these groups have even worked as adversaries trying to point the finger at one other. Michael, Adam, and Kurt continued to see the same groups of people doing the same tricks as always. They would see an owner hire a design team for a design project, then solicit bids from subcontractors through general contractors looking for a way to get a lower bid, then finally come with change orders for the rest of the project. Or even more concerning was seeing an individual claim to have the knowledge to manage every part themselves when they’re really just a general contractor hiring outside consultants and claiming to be a one-stop shop. Out of these concerns is where the idea of Total Project Management emerged.
